Saigon Central Post Office highlights
First and foremost, the post office makes a deep impression on visitors, especially first-timers for its typical neoclassical architecture. At the main entrance, there is a large clock which has been working since the construction of the building.
Stepping your foot into the interior, you will be overwhelmed by a huge space with a recognizable large picture of Ho Chi Minh. Because the unique structure of the building looks a bit like a European train station, you have the feeling that it is much like a long-established train station instead of a post office. In such a large space, the ceiling of the building is symmetrically constructed with the strong support of steel pillars.
One more no less outstanding feature of the building lies in two giant maps which is opposite towards each other. Those two maps represent different purposes with their own meanings. Central Saigon and its surroundings are depicted in one map, whereas the other portrayed southern Vietnam and Cambodia.
What’s more, one of the most significant highlight is the presence of Mr Duong Van Ngo who has been working for the office for many years and plays an indispensable role as the last letter writer in Ho Chi Minh City. He is a talented translator who is fluent in four languages and also a great person talking and offering useful information for visitors.
Saigon Central Post Office has a lot to offer visitors. In addition to its unique colonial building structure, the post office is also the place for everyone to send as well as receive mail or purchase postcards, stamps or even make phone calls.
