Details Itinerary:
Day 1 Arrive Vientiane We will meet you when we arrive and transfer to centrally located hotel. After a short rest, we set out on a short orientation of Vientiane, the capital. We will take a leisurely stroll around the city and watch the sun setting over the Mekong River and later in the evening see how the Lao people live. Overnight in Vientiane. Today Dinner included
Day 2 Tour Vientiane and fly to Xieng Khouang – the Plain of Jars After breakfast, we will visit Talat Sao, the Morning Market and explore some of the best sights – the Victory Gate and the beautiful golden That Luang Stupa. Then we fly to Xieng Khouang to visit the Plain of Jars (1, 2, 3) - an impressive archaeological site where we will marvel at the hundreds of large stone jars littered all over a wide plateau, see the old capital of Moung Khoun province and visit a nearby traditional village, before being taken to our hotel in Phonsavanh for our overnight stay Today Breakfast included
Day 3 Drive to the World Heritage City of Luang Prabang After an early rise we will visit the morning market. And we visit a Hill Tribe villages, and then Khum Bome – a village devastated by the American bombing between 1964 and 1973. After that we drive to Luang Prabang of about six to seven hours stopping off on the way to visit Thampra. There are plenty of opportunities for visiting villages and photographs. We continue our uphill drive climbing higher and higher into the mountains where we can enjoy the splendid natural mountain scenery, the forests and the views. After a coffee break at the junction with the main Vientiane-Luang Prabang Road we continue our journey through yet more mountains to the World Heritage City of Luang Prabang where we will overnight. Day 4 Tour Luang Prabang City Today our first visit will be to the National Museum then two magnificent temples - Wat Visoun, Wat Xienthong. After lunch we take a boat trip up the Mekong River to the mysterious Tam Ting Cave with its thousand Buddha statues of all shapes and sizes. On the way we will stop at Ban Xanghai a village which is famed for the production of traditional Lao rice alcohol. Watch the distillation process and then sample the product. After the visiting the cave, we will visit the two Lao-Loum villages of Ban Chan and Ban Xiengmene. And then at night we will explore the Night Market. Overnight in Luang Prabang. Day 5 Visit Khuang Si Waterfall and the Footprints of the Buddha We may like to get up early to see the morning procession of monks along Sisavangvong Road lined with the local people waiting to make their offerings of food. Then after breakfast we take a short drive to Ban Xangkhong - a weaving village and to Ban XiangLek – a village producing “sa” paper. Then it’s a long drive to Kuang Si Waterfall set in the lush green surroundings of one of the National Conservation Areas. En route, there are stops to visit the small villages of Ban Na Oune, a Hmong village, and Ban Tha Pane, a Khmu minority village. Then it’s back to Luang Prabang by the late afternoon The day will end with a visit to see the footprints of the Buddha at Wat Siphouthabath. Overnight in Luang Prabang. Today Breakfast included
Day 6 Luang Prabang - boat to Pakbeng The boat leaves Luang Prabang pier at 08:00 am for a cruise up the Mekong River to Pakbeng. En route it stops at Pak-Ou village at the mouth of the Nam Ou River for a visit to Tam Ting – the "Cave of a Thousand Buddhas". There is a chance to see rural life along the Mekong and to visit minority ethnic groups; then, a buffet lunch on board. We arrive in Pakbeng before sunset and check-in at the Luang Say Lodge. Dinner is on the terrace overlooking the Mekong River. Overnight in Pakbeng at the Pakbeng Lodge. Today Breakfast included
Day 7 By boat to Houai Xai After a full breakfast served on the boat and a walk around the city to the Pakbeng market, (where people from the surrounding minority villages exchange their goods) we leave at 08:30. En route there will be stops to see rural life along the Mekong and to visit ethic minority groups; then, a buffet lunch on board. Relax for the rest of the trip and enjoy the fine views until we reach our final destination of Houai Xai. Today Breakfast included
